Project Modeling Standard
The International PIM Standard (iPIMs) is focused on building a community where Members (individuals and organizations) work together to create information modeling standards for the real estate industry.  Led by its founder Jason Van Sickle, iPIMs mission is to help modernize real estate development by promoting increased use of information technologies.  Creating industry standards for the gathering, compiling, sharing, and utilization of information is the primary way that iPIMs works to achieve that mission.

The development of iPIMs was based on the desire to build upon the success of Building Information Modeling (BIM).  The concept of BIM has been around since the 1970's, but real strides toward standardization and widespread implementation began in the mid 2000's.  BIM is focused on information related to the design, construction, and lifespan of physical facilities.  Project Information Modeling has a broader focus, which is on human engagement in real estate activities.

The goal of iPIMs is to create standardization in information sharing within the real estate industry.  Standardization that is aimed at increasing the quality, accuracy, and predictive capabilities of information models.  Having industry standards creates compatibility among emergent PIM technologies, which enables real estate professionals to better creates, share, and utilize information.  To achieve that compatibility, requires specifications for both data structure and content.
